Pharos Long Range Multisensor Surveillance Platform is a system designed to operate continuously 24hours long-range reconnaissance, surveillance & tracking applications in harsh environmental conditions. Conceived as a modular concept, Pharos LR can accommodate different sensors, according to customer needs.

Fix mounted on a mast, a tower, a tripod or integrated in a vehicle, Pharos LR provides operational effectiveness for a wide range of applications, such as:

  • Border & Coastal Surveillance

  • Customs and Immigration

  • Protection of Sensitive Sites

  • Anti-terrorism and national security applications

  • Vessel traffic management

  • Law enforcement

  • Protection of fisheries and Economic Exclusion Zones

Pharos LR can be control using control panel or Windows based graphical user interface (GUI), both allowing programming of the system. For temporary on field manual deployment, system can be proposed with suitable tripod and shockproof control case incorporating a built-in monitor.

The Pharos LRS surveillance system is designed to operate continuously for long periods in harsh marine conditions.

The typical system consists of a Sensor Tracking Head, a Control Unit, Display screen, and Electronics Unit. The system can be stabilised in two axes. A vertical gyroscope housed in the body of the sensor head and a horizontal gyroscope in the Electronics Unit.

The operator has precise control of the camera speed and direction of movement using a joystick on the control unit. The control unit has controls for the main sensors and the wash and wipe. All other imager and display functions are controlled with a pushbutton menu system on the control panel. Through this menu the system may be set up to the requirements of the user and to access extra features of the sensors and control system functions.

The electronics unit is the hub of the system. This contains the main processor, video controllers, horizontal gyroscope, inputs and outputs to the other system components and auxiliary connections. Inputs include a standard NMEA interface for multiplexed data from radar, GPS, bearing gyro, etc.

Outputs for video recording and further displays are provided. Position, heading, time, and date can be overlaid on these outputs and recorded to provide evidence. Software programmes are contained on interchangeable memory cards so programming upgrades can be carried out locally or off-site.

The system can be configured in a number of ways depending on the role of the vessel or craft to which it is fitted. The initial roles on board marine vessels can be for surveillance or collision-avoidance. In hazardous areas, a surveillance system can be locked into collision avoidance mode to aid navigation. A collision-avoidance system may be switched to surveillance mode to assist in search and rescue.
